John Ferguson

John has practised in both NSW and Victoria, with a focus on commercial litigation and dispute resolution for small business and individual clients. Prior to working at GHL, he acted as in-house legal officer for the Australian Taxation Office, chiefly on taxation, insolvency and debt recovery disputes.

John is available to assist you with:

  • commercial and consumer claims
  • bankruptcy and insolvency issues
  • taxation and superannuation objections, reviews and appeals
  • security of payment disputes (construction industry)
  • debt recovery
  • contractual and shareholder disputes
  • unfair dismissal and other employment matters

John’s primary work is in litigation, and he has appeared or acted in all NSW and Victorian jurisdictions from NCAT/VCAT through to the Supreme Courts and Courts of Appeal, as well as the Administrative Review Tribunal and all Commonwealth Courts. However, he understands that while litigation is sometimes unavoidable, it can be a very difficult and expensive experience.

John recognises that economic reality plays an important role in commercial disputes and believes that, where appropriate, negotiated settlements may be a more efficient, sensible, cost effective and less stressful outcome for you.

Every situation is different. John’s aim is to get to know you and your business and work with you, not for you, to achieve the best result.

In his spare time

John is a director of the Gymea Miranda Bowling and Sports Club Limited, otherwise known as the Gymea Bowlo, and an active member of the Gymea Goannas bowls club (yes, even though he isn’t retired!). And it turns out becoming a resident of the Shire has not yet eradicated John’s life-long support for the Sea Eagles and the mighty Carlton Blues.

Appointments with John can be made through his Legal Assistant, Eliza Berrigan.

Andrea Travessa

Andrea is a dedicated Family Law Lawyer at GHL, specialising in Family Law since 2021.

Andrea earned her legal degree at Macquarie University and she is admitted to practice in both the High Court of Australia and Supreme Court of NSW.

Before joining GHL, Andrea worked at a number of boutique firms, honing her skills in parenting and financial issues.

Driven by a commitment to social justice and empathy, Andrea has represented clients both privately and through legal aid, often undertaking advocacy independently and without the need for counsel due to her clients’ socio-economic backgrounds and vulnerabilities.

As a valued member of the Family Law team, Andrea advises on a diverse range of matters, including parenting arrangements, property settlements, divorce, and binding financial agreements.

She understands that separation can be challenging and strives to help clients engage with the Family Law process, ensuring their stories are acknowledged and heard. Passionate about achieving practical outcomes, Andrea guides clients to uncover their core concerns and priorities, helping them navigate the complexities of family law to co-create solutions that work for their families.

Andrea is also bilingual and can read, write, and speak fluent Greek.

In her spare time

Andrea enjoys travelling, spending time, and making memories with her young family, going to the beach, cheering on her favourite soccer team, Sydney FC, and reminiscing about her glory days on the pitch.

Whether scoring goals or splashing in the waves, Andrea believes that life is all about enjoying the ride.

Andrea is also a self-proclaimed singer and dancer, however these days her biggest audience is her little one who thinks her singing and dancing performances are a hilarious comedy! Andrea hopes she can get back to performing one day.

Appointments with Andrea can be made through her Legal Assistants, Michelle Camilleri (Monday to Wednesday) and Melinda Hancock (Thursday & Friday).
